Company History
Quality construction has been a family tradition since 1935, when Francis E. Gardiner, Sr. started the firm of Gardiner and Gardiner to build high quality projects. In the early 1950’s, the Company expanded its expertise. Francis E. Gardiner, Jr. joined the firm in 1962. By the mid 1960s, the firm had completed the transition to commercial and institutional construction.
In the ensuing years, the firm became well known for the use of Critical Path Methods and for furthering its construction management capabilities. As the firm increased its negotiated and competitive bid work, the facilities and staff were expanded to meet those needs. To increase client services, the site development arm of Gardiner & Gardiner was formed in the late 1970s. Extending beyond the capabilities of general contracting and construction management, the firm expanded its expertise to include the restoration of historic buildings and the design and construction of building interiors in the 1980s.
With the belief that progressive leadership is essential to growth and success, the third generation of the Gardiner family joined the company. Francis E. “Skip” Gardiner, III became the new leader responsible for continuing the family’s vision of providing and expanding superior construction services to the Baltimore-Washington area. In the 1990s, additional family members joined the firm, including Michael, James, and Timothy Gardiner.
Gardiner & Gardiner is further strengthened by the skilled leadership and extensive experience provided by its president, Mike Adams. Mr. Adams brings 32 years worth of business development, construction management and estimating experience to Gardiner & Gardiner and your project.
The firm opened the new decade by increasing the scope of its design-build services. Gardiner & Gardiner fortified its design-build capabilities by affiliating with the two (2) leading manufacturers of pre-engineered metal building systems – Butler Manufacturing Company and American Buildings Company. Gardiner & Gardiner remains committed to providing exceptional construction services to its clients and their communities.
